Developing a Customized Farm Safety & Health Management Plan

Having a comprehensive agricultural safety and health management “plan” is a great way for employers to keep well-organized and their employees healthy and safe. A huge bonus is that these plans are valued by insurers, regulators, and hired employees. Many insurers on large farms either require such plans or they set rates on the basis of plans and longer-term outcomes (paid losses, workers comp claims, etc.). This workshop walks farm owners, managers, and supervisors through initial steps to develop a custom plan to fit the unique nuances of their operation. The workshop takes participants through processes of Establishing Safety Policies and Procedures; Identifying and Assessing Hazards; Controlling Risk; Educating Employees. Templates, forms and other information are shared so participants can return to their operation and work with the farm operations stakeholders to complete a robust, meaningful plan.
